A blind flange (also known as a ‘closure plate flange’) is installed at the end of a piping system to terminate a pipe. It has no center hole (bore), so there is no flow through the flange. They are a critical component used in the flow of various liquids, gases, and other materials. A blind flange is a circular plate with bolt holes that are used to close the end of a pipe.
Features of Blind Flanges
A blind flange can replace a butt weld cap in case an extension of the piping line is required, or in case a piping inspection is required (remove the blind flange to access the pipe interior). This type of flange can also be used as the rod access point on drain systems. Depending upon the application, a blind flange may be drilled and used as a slip-on flange, or tapped and used as a threaded flange. Its connection mode is to connect with the flange, and its main function is to block the pipe. It is a bit similar to the head and cap in the pipe fitting, but it is different from theirs because the place with the flange cover is a “live” pipeline. After all, it can be disassembled when in use, and can be blocked when not in use, Because it is fixed by bolts, it is also very convenient to remove.

Key Applications of Blind Flanges:
System Maintenance and Repair:They act as a safe, temporary seal to isolate sections of pipelines, allowing workers to repair or replace valves and piping without disrupting the entire system.
Pressure Testing (Hydrotesting): Blind flanges are used to cap off pipes while subjecting them to high pressure to test for leaks, ensuring system integrity before operation.
Pipeline Termination and Expansion: They are used to permanently or temporarily terminate a pipeline. Installing them on a tee-junction allows for future, easy expansion without requiring extensive cutting or welding.
Access Point:Because they are bolted rather than welded, they provide an easily accessible entry point for inspections, cleaning, or maintenance inside the pipe.
Industrial Applications:They are commonly utilized in high-pressure environments, such as oil refineries, petrochemical plants, wastewater treatment, and HVAC systems, to manage flow and isolate hazardous materials.
Draining and Sampling: They are used to close off drains, low points in equipment, or sampling points.
